PRESS RELEASE - 13 August 2001

RMS Distribution Services implements Advanta Contract Warehousing

Advanta Software announced today that RMS Distribution Services, one of Australia's most flexible mid-sized providers of supply chain services, has selected the Advanta Contract Warehousing solution to automate its logistics operations.

RMS Distribution Services has rapidly evolved from a family company centred on transport management in 1992, to a middle tier provider of supply chain solutions embracing warehouse management, distribution, customs clearance and consultancy.

RMS places more emphasis on having a long-term partnership with their clients than on just growing the size of their own business. They foster this relationship by using the experience of their team to customise solutions that will add value to their clients' business.

As a national business with multiple sites, including under bond warehousing, RMS required a custom made solution to handle their multi-product facilities. The solution must meet the total supply chain spectrum from production to end-user.

With more clients attracted to RMS's supply chain solutions, it wasn't long before their legacy computer systems were outgrown. RMS's General Manager, Paul O'Malley, with a background in both Retail and Logistics knew that their new Contract Warehousing and Logistics software could not be an out of the box solution. "We required a broad range of functionality now," said Paul, "plus the means of jointly developing new applications we had identified as being vital to make our clients more efficient."

So when RMS examined the software market they took into account the desirability of working together with a software house, as well as functionality and price.

"Advanta Software was selected," said Paul O'Malley, "because they had an integrated solution that would enable RMS to work with better processes. In addition they had the skills we sought, plus we found Advanta to be a straightforward company with a no nonsense approach. We felt we could work together quite comfortably to develop our future requirements."

RMS made the implementation of the Advanta Financials a priority. The Contract Warehousing suite comprising Debtors, Stock, Order Processing, Sales Analysis, Purchasing, Warehouse Management, Client Billing, EDI and Report Generator are being progressively rolled out. Joint development has also commenced on the RMS Transport Management System.

"We expect to be running with a reasonably full solution within 6 months," commented Paul, "then we can add XLPrint, Expedite, Archiver and Web & Form Ordering."

What benefit does RMS expect from this investment in IT? According to Paul O'Malley, "RMS expects an integrated solution which is continuously improving. We want to know where we are and we want timely management information which will help us serve our customers better."
