Case Study - 9 November 2001Contract Warehousing firm saves a "truckload of money" using Paris & eXpediteKagan Bros Consolidated is a 50-year-old Australian company specialising in Contract Warehousing, Logistics & Transport. With facilities in all major Australian Capital Cities, Kagan offers services including Cross-Docking and Pick & Pack for clients as diverse as automotive, chemical and major retailers. As a contract warehouse operation, Kagan needs to inform each of its clients what stock was invoiced on their behalf each day. This involves printing a 30-50-page report for each client and then faxing it to them. A process that tied up a member of staff for half the day. Paris Puts Jazz Into StockIn mid-2001, Head Office implemented Paris (Designer and Spooler) and eXpedite through their software supplier, Advanta Software. Each night an invoice report is run and output through Paris to make it more readable as well as adding client specific details. eXpedite then emails each client their report. Around 90% of clients have email, the remainder receive theirs as a fax, sent automatically by eXpedite to the fax server. "Clients say they love the jazzed up reports," states Chris Linden, IT Manager for Kagan Bros, "they're much easier to read. But what they really appreciate is getting the information they require, guaranteed first thing in the morning." On a weekly basis, a similar process provides clients with an email showing their end of week stock status. eXpedite Taken InternallyKagan also use Paris & eXpedite to provide all relevant staff with their own customised copy of the Container Report. This document lists the next day's packing or unpacking details for their importers' and exporters' containers. Before Paris, this was a weekly report with 10 versions each running to 16 pages. Only one copy would be produced and this was rotated through the staff. It's All About ServiceKagan is operating in a service industry and Paris & eXpedite are helping Kagan provide better service through the provision of timely information. The Future"I can see additional applications for eXpedite", said Chris, "such as emailing Proof of Delivery documents nightly, instead of faxing them on demand. Plus eXpedite could deliver our invoices, alleviating the need to handle paper and envelopes." eXpedite Gives Immediate ReturnOne staff member was freed up the moment eXpedite was implemented. Customers were more satisfied and in a service industry, as Chris Linden says, “clients are prepared to pay a little extra for better service."
