Delivering IT solutions
to the 3rd Party Logistics market

PRESS RELEASE - 22nd February 2008

With it's 3PL market focus, Translogix provides tailored solutions

Translogix International has always engaged with niche markets to develop specific solutions that address the unique needs of that industry. “We strongly believe R&D projects should not be undertaken in isolation from users,” says sales director Steve Nelson. “We therefore work closely with prospective and existing customers in a cycle of continuous improvement when bringing new product to the market. This allows them to compete by offering distinctive solutions to their own customers.”

Nelson says many 3PL customers are simply looking for an adequate solution to the core functions at an affordable cost. “However increasingly, customers are looking for more innovation, speed and flexibility in order to improve their competitive position,” he says. “They expect to utilise technology to offer broader and more innovative services at higher margins and win new business.”

OTranslogix’s most commonly implemented solution is its ADVANTA suite for the 3PL industry, a comprehensive suite of over thirty software application modules designed to manage all facets of freight management, warehouse management, contract warehousing, supply chain management, e-fulfilment and financials.

Nelson predicts future systems will need to ‘do more’ while managing ongoing pressure for costs to continue falling. “Solutions will need to be deployed more rapidly and be more intuitive and easier to use,” he says.

“Systems will also need to deal with ever increasing complexity. They may address this by a combination of greater functionality within the core system but also the ability to readily interface to specialist point solutions, such as route planning, or track and trace.”

“In the future systems may increasingly be offered on a Software as a Service basis,” Nelson adds. “In this environment software will likely be charged mainly on a usage basis. There will be no requirement for internal infrastructure as the software will run using hosted environments without local installation and all access via the web.”

In addition, Nelson says consolidation will drive some 3PL companies to become a one stop shop. “They’ll have to widen their offerings across the supply chain to encompass procurement, freight forwarding, transport and warehousing such as pick pack, cross dock, scan packing and kitting,” he argues. “They may do this independently or take on a 4PL role to sub contract specific components”.

“Consolidation at the top end also opens up opportunities for new, more agile operators to enter the mid market. In this environment traditional assets such as warehouses, trucks, loading equipment and the like become of less significance. Instead what will drive their growth are skilled management teams bringing to market flexible and innovative services. These will need to be supported by increasingly sophisticated processes and IT systems.”

Steve Nelson sees the growth of the 3PL industry continuing to provide opportunities for Translogix International. “3PL suppliers are under ongoing pressure to broaden their range of services,” he observes. ” Because of our original roots as an ERP supplier, Translogix has possibly the widest offering in a single integrated solution for the 3PL market. This ideally positions our company and its clients to prosper from this trend.”
